Iranians have been surprised to see the Web sites of social media working inside the country without using a proxy server or virtual private network (VPN), but happiness did not last for long, because the sites have been blocked again on Tuesday.
The sudden opening of the social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter was a big surprise inside and abroad. Many believed that the initiative to open social media platforms has been ordered by President Irani Hasan, thanking him for his liberal views.
In contrast to the authorities Iranian Internet said that access to the social networking site was not possible due to a technical glitch in the computer system that handles internet providers across the country.
The Secretary of State Mehr Abdolsamad Khoramabadi said as local Mehr News Agency "the lack of a filter on Facebook yesterday [Monday] was apparently due to technical problems and the Technical Committee examines this question... We're investigating to see which of these [FAI] has made this".
There are also suspicions that the authorities can do experiments to assess the social impact of a possible final opening.
"They do tests to see what is happening if they remove the filters and see if they can control the situation or not," said the computer engineer Arash Tajik, quoted by Reuters.
With the establishment of glitch, filters are back and the Iran returned to the situation where it was since 2009, when authorities blocked social networks to prevent the opposition to use social networks to organize mega protests against bid-rigging alleged to the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Lets see if the Iranian Government really intends to lift ban on social media sites or not, but despite restrictions, the Iranians are websites to surf blocked with the help of proxy and VPN servers.
